Abstract
The ROFIRFUTURE project explores the adaptation of Romanian provenances of silver fir (Abies alba) to major abiotic stress and the content of chemical compounds in the bark. The goal is to identify genetic resources with adequate response to salt, water, and cold stress, with applications for afforestation and forest restoration. The bark of silver fir is analyzed by FT-IR and HPLC to discover genotypes with valuable potential in industry, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics.
Project Objective
Evaluation of different Romanian provenances of silver fir to identify forest genetic resources resistant or tolerant to abiotic stress and assessment of the chemical composition of bark for industrially and medicinally useful components.
Expected Results
- Publication of scientific articles in Web of Science indexed journals (Q1, Q2)
- Participation in national and international scientific events
- Dissemination of results through specialized websites and informative materials
- Creation and updating of a database with project results
- Implementation of the concept of successive cycles of forest tree selection
